Curving It Up

 

At BAM Super Sew Day we got a great intro class on using the Quick Curve Ruler (made by Sew Kind of Wonderful.) Amy MacDonald had recently shared her beautiful version of the Metro Twist pattern, and she offered to help us all actually try and use our rulers. (what a concept right?) So we all bought a copy of the pattern and tried it out together. It was really fun to see the other fabric combinations that others were using and I'm looking forward to seeing how the quilts all look once we get them sewn together.. 

There are righties and lefties involved in this pattern so using lots of labels were recommended to keep track of which piece goes with which. The curve that this ruler gives you is very gentle and not hard to achieve, especially if you sew fairly slowly and don't tug on the pieces too much. There's also a lot of built in  extra when you trim the unit to size, very flexible.

Friend Jaye recommended using something like these small post-it labels to use on the top of our rulers too to remind you where you're aligning the ruler when you're trimming up the unit to size. That was a very helpful tip. Amy also recommended making a dot with a sharpie pen on the top of the ruler at the intersections of the lines you're aiming to line up. This is then clean-able with an alcohol wipe.

I got a lot of my units sewn together, a few of them trimmed down to size and most of the pieces cut out so I'm feeling like I have a pretty good start to this quilt. Thanks for helping us learn to use our tools, Amy & Jaye.
