Fabric of Memories

In my opinion, these are the best kind of scraps to get.
All these came to me recently from my mom.
Here there is some Jonathan Livingston Seagull fabric (remember that book and movie?),
the purple trim from my curtains,
the embroidered Mickey Mouse pocket from my dad's old shirt that I always wanted to steal,
the yellow I think is from my roller rink skating pants
and more bits containing memories small, unremarkable, but still precious.

What ever will I use these for?
Who knows at this point, but they'll get put into something, at some point. Maybe an intentionally autobiographical piece?
And I have to say that I like having them around, helps me to realize how tied up my memories are in fabric. Thoroughly immersed I am! Thanks for passing them on Mom.

Showing my AGE....yes, I remember Jonathan Livingston Seagull and I swear I had some of that fabric....
I do think, for people drawn to fiber, our lives are wrapped up in the bits and pieces. I know after my parents died, there was some clothing I could not part with and it was cut into managable pieces for the scrapbag.
It is fun to look through and find memories woven into the fabrics....
You'll find a good use for these, all of them!

XXOO!!

What? No band uniform? Surely you took a swatch of that red fuzz from the hat. :)

I have been contemplating a "my life as a quilt" quilt. I haven't actually done it, but I imagine it to be an ongoing project where I get a few blocks out of the way first and then make others as the spirit moves. I used to buy patches whenever I went anywhere, so the first blocks would be Square in a Square blocks with the patches sewn in the middle square. I would also make some smaller S-in-a-S blocks to accommodate pins I have collected like the SWMBO pin that Adrienne made. What do you think?
