At the Movies and on the Sunny Deck

Updated!
Some sun-filled flower pictures for fun. I'm having better luck with the macro function on my new camera, see....

With mille grazie to DebR (who loves movies as much as books just like me!).

Hey why doncha Play The Movie Quote Game with me!
If you want to play here are, the rules:
* Pick fifteen of your favorite movies.

* Go to IMDB and find a quote from each movie.

* Post them on your blog for everyone to guess.

* Fill in the film title once it’s guessed.

This part is for the reader (that's you bub!):
* No Googling or using IMDB search functions.

* Leave your answer(s) in the comments.

So here are 15 of my favorite movies that weren't on DebR's list already. Not in any particular order, and certainly not my very top of all time. Just the ones I came up with in the few minutes this took to do...

Movie Quote Number 1: Check!

" I assure you, Mrs. Buttle, the Ministry is very scrupulous about following up and eradicating any error. If you have any complaints which you'd like to make, I'd be more than happy to send you the appropriate forms. "

Yes, Dorothy, this is indeed from the fabulous Terry Gilliam masterpiece, Brazil!
Sam Lowry says it to the unfortunate Mrs. Buttle (whose husband has just been erroneously scooped up by the authorities.)

Movie Quote Number 2: Check!
" Even the smallest person can change the course of the future. "

Yup, DebR this is from the first Lord of the Rings movie, Fellowship of the Rings, except Galadriel says it to Frodo.

Movie Quote Number 3: "When *you* was my age? When my old man was my age, when my brother was my age... You was never my age, none of ya! And the sooner you creeps get hip to that, the sooner you'll dig us! "

Movie Quote Number 4: Check!
"Take car. Go to mum's. Kill Phil - "Sorry." - grab Liz, go to the Winchester, have a nice cold pint, and wait for all of this to blow over. How's that for a slice of fried gold? "

Way to go Carol, you got Shaun of the Dead correct. My all time favorite zombie movie, so hilarious you forget about the zombies. Shaun says this to Ed as they are figuring out what to do next, of course they end up at the pub.

Movie Quote Number 5: "There are two kinds of people in this world: Those that enter a room and turn the television set on, and those that enter a room and turn the television set off. "

Movie Quote Number 6: "It's all done except the last chapter. I want you to help me. Finish it... "

Movie Quote Number 7: "Y'all got on this boat for different reasons, but y'all come to the same place. So now I'm asking more of you than I have before. Maybe all. Sure as I know anything, I know this - they will try again. Maybe on another world, maybe on this very ground swept clean. A year from now, ten? They'll swing back to the belief that they can make people... better. And I do not hold to that. So no more runnin'. I aim to misbehave. "

Movie Quote Number 8: "VoilĂ ! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of Fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished. However, this valorous visitation of a by-gone vexation, stands vivified and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin van-guarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition. "

Movie Quote Number 9: "One minute you're defending the whole galaxy, and, suddenly, you find yourself sucking down Darjeeling with... Marie Antoinette and her little sister. "

Movie Quote Number 10: "I know *exactly* what you mean. Let me tell you why you're here. You're here because you know something. What you know you can't explain, but you feel it. You've felt it your entire life, that there's something wrong with the world. You don't know what it is, but it's there, like a splinter in your mind, driving you mad. It is this feeling that has brought you to me. Do you know what I'm talking about? "

Movie Quote Number 11: "Your master underestimated women! I was good enough to sleep with, but not to teach. What better punishment than to die by a woman's hand?"

Movie Quote Number 12: Check!
"Now, I had heard that word at least ten times a day from my old man. He worked in profanity the way other artists might work in oils or clay. It was his true medium; a master. But, I chickened out and said the first name that came to mind. "

Oooh, Dorothy got another one! Yes, this is indeed grown-up Ralphie reminiscing about dear old dad.

Movie Quote Number 13: Check!
" I'm shakin' the dust of this crummy little town off my feet and I'm gonna see the world. Italy, Greece, the Parthenon, the Colosseum. Then, I'm comin' back here to go to college and see what they know. And then I'm gonna build things. I'm gonna build airfields, I'm gonna build skyscrapers a hundred stories high, I'm gonna build bridges a mile long... "

DebR gets number two correct, yes it is from It's A Wonderful Life. George Bailey holds forth with his immediately thwarted plans for the future.

Movie Quote Number 14: Check!
"Darling. Light, of my life. I'm not gonna hurt ya. You didn't let me finish my sentence. I said, I'm not gonna hurt ya. I'm just gonna bash your brains in. I'm gonna bash 'em right the fuck in. Ha, ha. "
Janet got this one, creepy one isn't it? From The Shining, crazy Jack Torrance says it to his poor wife Wendy.

Movie Quote Number 15: "Okay. But you're not listening to me. There are other things that need to be taken into account here. Like the whole spectrum of human emotion. You can't just lump everything into these two categories and then just deny everything else! "

Damn, Julie, these are tough!
#2 is from one of the LoTR movies, I think, but I can't remember which one. I'm going to guess Fellowship of the Ring.

#13 is the only one I know for sure - It's a Wonderful Life - George says it to Mary.

Several of the others are niggling at my brain but I can't quite place them.

BTW, your guesses on mine were good and logical, but incorrect...sorry! :-)

I'm back this morning after sleeping on it to say I'm definitely guessing Fellowship of the Ring for #2. I think Galadriel (sp?) said it to Frodo.

#2 is from LOTR: Fellowship of the Ring, Gandalf says it to Frodo in the mines of Moria :-)

#6: Misery

#14: The Shining (eek!)

#12 Grown-up Ralphie in A Christmas Story

Oh, and is #1 from Brazil?

Yes to all except Janet with her guess on #6 for Misery. Although, that line probably is in Misery also! Let's just say it is a completely different sort of movie. Good going everyone! How fun...

In your update you said "except" Galadriel said it to Frodo - that's what I said! Janet is the one who said Gandalf. Just sayin' ;-)

Oops! You're right DebR, sorry about that! And yes, Lunaea got West Side Story right for #3.

Okay, some of these are just calculated guesses, some I know -

#6 - Stranger than Fiction - ?
#7 - Serenity - Mal
#8 - V in V is for Vendetta
#10 - Close Encounters of the Third Kind - the guy talking to all the people who went to Devil's Peek
#12 - I know this one was already guessed - but of course, the narrator/main character talking bout his dad in A Christmas Story
