Weekly Trinkets

The weekly Trinket quilt blocks have been made and posted on Instagram with all of those hashtags, #trinketquilt #trinketsal #trinketsal2023 #Alisonglass (it's a bit much really).
I like this arrow!
Either two mountains or reversed a little crown.
A boat? A hat?
A kind of 3-d block?

A not exactly pointy paper airplane. I think I need to re-sew this one as the point is going to be lost in the seam allowance.

Trinket Time

During the last BAM meeting, someone mentioned that Alison Glass was having a sew-a-long for her very cool pattern, Trinket. I've always really loved her fabrics, and already have a pretty good stash of them, so I decided to sign up for the sew-a-long and get the pattern and try it out. At this point I'm planning on making it with the fabric I already have. But of course there are many tempting bundles for sale, like this one

There are so many variations on the pattern that she's already shared with us, so it's going to be hard to choose one to go with. Most have to do with whether or not to have the checkerboard look that the main pattern picture shows above. One option that I like is to have all the backgrounds of the blocks match the alternating solid squares so the trinket items are just floating. It's not nearly as colorful though, and that's a big part of what I'm drawn to with Alison Glass's fabrics, the intense and over-saturated color, so I'll probably go ahead and do the one above.

Stitch Happens Section 1

One of the sew-a-longs I'm doing is making the Stitch Happens pattern. I missed out on participating in January, but the videos from SewHungryHippie are still up in the classroom. I chose to go with a mostly Tula Pink fabric palette, and also I'm pulling from my Box of Letters. All fabrics with words and letters. But I'm being flexible and subbing in other choices as needed. Like above in the upper left hand corner, I needed a pretty dark purple and I just didn't have a TP fabric. that would suit.
I really like the distinctive eyes in the owl fabric, so I fussy cut a little bit.
I tried out several fabrics to use for the background but I went with this typographical black white fabric.
I think it reads pretty well as a background from a distance. This is all I've gotten done of the pattern so far. This is the bottom section of the sewing machine.
I'll admit it took some figuring to get the letters to be all right-side up with those HST in the background.
I like how this pattern works, the various fabrics flow from section to section and meet up and make interesting shapes. The class went in a very different direction than the pattern which made the fabric placements very confusing. I ended up just using the pattern.
More eyes! Eyes that are reading letters, and trying to make out words if they're there.
