Many Hands

 Another thing I worked on at Super Sew Day was putting together the quilt we're making for one of our relatives. This is a non-official Quilt of Valor for a veteran. As you can see, our design wall was the floor. I took a picture of the row I was sewing together with the sashing in between so that I'd get the blocks in the correct order and orientation.

The work went by so quickly with four of us working on it at once. The sashing had been pre-cut which was very helpful. And the majority of the blocks were actually 12.5" which always makes these group quilts go together more easily.

I think these blocks all turned out beautifully, and I love the range of prints and solids that we all chose.

There was some rearranging happening when we did the horizontal white sashing + red solid cornerstones. Unfortunately I neglected to get a final form picture of the finished quilt top. The binding and backing got made as well, so that one of our members can do the long-arming this week. It will be a very quick turnaround which is great news.

Fish Party!

I finally got the comfort quilts done for the Downy Touch of Comfort project.

Isn't that label cool?I decided to call this one, "Fish Party!"Here's the second quilt that I made with my own fabrics (the other one was from the quilt that the project sent me). I don't have many commercially produced solids, I just don't buy them for some reason. So I used some of my dyed fabrics that were in good colors, pink and blue. This is one crazy quilt, mostly because of the psychedelic frogs in the border.

I'm glad I finally got to use some of this rainbow cat fabric again, the expressions are so true to life. It was fun making these two small crib sized quilts. I hope the kids who get these quilts enjoy them and that they do end up bringing some comfort to them!

Quilts For Kids

My Downy Touch of Comfort quilt kit arrived!

Aren't these prints so cute and cheery? It has a little embroidered label and some precut strips, a postage paid label to send it back, and it comes with an easy, simple suggested pattern. They also ask that if you can, to make a second quilt and send it along with the one made with the kit. Hey, why not? I have a whole big bin of kid prints that aren't getting used at the moment.

The organization Quilts for Kids began a few years ago, trying to use up fabric that was ending up in landfills. But the organizations recently picked up Downy as a sponsor and are going big in this project, 10,000 quilts is the goal!
