Stamp Quilt Start

This week I received the newly released Alison Glass Stamp Quilt border fabric just in time to start the sew-a-long she's holding. I also got the official ruler which seemed like it would be very helpful. This picture is before I took the sticky white backing off of the ruler, that's why the words are backwards. I also bought two of her embroidered patches. Aren't they fun? I feel like I need a jean jacket to sew them onto. I'm always too hot for a jean jacket these days. Maybe I'll put them on my recycled/reused jeans tote bag instead.

Here's the ruler with the white sticker off, the white is now the actual scalloped stripe that is printed on the fabric.
This is what the stamp quilt blocks look like. I am planning to cut various sizes of motifs from Tula Pink fabrics to use as the stamp art.

X's & O's

I hadn't shared a picture of the finished quilt that I worked on for BAMQ Community Giving. I did the quilting and the binding on this lovely design. I really loved these fabric choices and this great quilt design. I hope whoever receives the quilt enjoys it too.

As this is a lap quilt, I did fairly minimal quilting in the white sections, the triangles & squares, as well as the border. I like dense quilting for wall quilts, but not for something that's going to be on or near a body, I think that's just too stiff and not drape able to be pleasant.

I also did my best at doing a self-border. I will confess that it is not up to competition standards shall we say? So, I hope that's okay, it's sturdy and will hold up to many many machine washings.  The backing fabric I got off the free table is so cute and I thought the yellow of it matched the bits of yellow in the other fabrics well enough.

Wandering Wednesday - Alameda

We just went up to Oakland to visit our DD, and we all went under the Webster tube tunnel over to the very very nearby island of Alameda. I hadn't been out there in ages, and it was very lively. A lot of the building looked just the same, but a lot has been built up too. Looks like a fun place to live. We got some lovely Boba fruit tea from Yifang Taiwan Fruit Tea and walked on the beach. It was hot and sunny and also windy so quite pleasant if you had a hat.
We then drove over to another part of the island for an early dinner at a highly recommended Thai restaurant, Toomies Thai. Really really good Thai food. The drink above was a great surprise and is now my new favorite, it's a Butterfly Pea Flower Limeade. It starts out blue and when they add the lime it turns this beautiful magenta. So refreshing.
We did a lot of walking and talking which was really fun.
I fell in love with this neon sign on this for-sale building. It had a drive through situation on the side so you pull up and pick up your flowers I guess? Anyways, if that neon tubing is still good, I really hope someone that knows how reclaims that sign. That font is So Good.
A Carnegie building from 1902, the Free Library which has now been closed for 20 years. They've been looking for someone to renovate it, a really beautiful building. It was the first of 3 libraries that Carnegie built in California. There have been several plans to reuse the building, but unfortunately the latest one fell through in 2019.
And back over the Tidal Canal on the rattle-y metal Park Street bridge.

Back into Oakland we went.  I love looking at the shapes all the metal parts of the bridge have.

July To-Do

Here's how the design wall is looking at the beginning of the month. There's still some Bohemian Wife stuff up there, but this time, it's for the quilt back because the front is done. Also, a lot easier to move compared to all the blocks and strips. The October column for the Temperature Quilt is on the left and the City Sampler is on the right with one new strip sewn in so far.

Begin Something New

Oxbow Tote - cut out and begin assembly. I still haven't started in on this and I really want to.

AG Stamp Quilt - decide on sashing option, cut out stamp block centers from Tula Pink fabrics.

Continue Assembly

Sew the rest of the columns for the Temperature Quilt. October is partway done, finish that and do Nov & Dec, get them all done before it's OND again!

Bohemian Wife -assemble quilt back and make binding.

Pantone Project - work on a overall design, either in EQ8 or up on the design wall.

City Sampler - continue assembly of the quilt top with sashing between last 4 rows. Decide on adding border.

Y.E.S. Coat - continue making pieces/blocks. assemble on foundation, cut out lining pieces from dyed fabric.
Snake In The Garden - Finish hand stitching
Kawandii - Finish hand stitching/assembly

ICAD - work on an index card a day.

Quilting

Final Steps

Japanese Houses/Village - add a label, take pictures.

Take a picture of the finished Blue Squares quilt.

That's a lot to choose from! I'm giving myself options.

Hurray, July!

Well, that sure was a quick June wasn't it? Even though it went by so fast and furiously, I managed to get a lot done. There's a lot happening in July, so we shall see how much I get accomplished.

This monthly marker photo was edited in Percolator and Snapseed.

I like the Percolator app a whole lot, it's another way to check out an abstracted version of a design that you're working on.

Here's my monthly one second every day video, using the app 1se.

The monthly I-Did List for June is as follows:

  1. I pieced together all of the sections and eventually finished the Bohemian Wife quilt top
  2. I pieced the teeny-tiny leftover HSTs from the Bohemian Wife into blocks.
  3. I  bordered some of the extra Bohemian Wife blocks to use on making the quilt back.
  4. I worked on an ICAD piece everyday and posted them.
  5. I quilted and bound a Community Giving quilt.
  6. I made some new pieces for the YES coat.
  7. I found the grey for the rest of the City Sampler quilt top and cut out the needed strips.
  8. I did some playing around with the Pantone Project blocks
  9. I put up the October column of the Temperature Quilt and cut the last of the pieces for October November December. I also started piecing the October column together.
  10. I made the trip to the San Mateo County Fair to see the BAMQ exhibit and visit The 4 I's quilt.
  11. I entered the New Quilts of Northern California exhibit at PIQF and was accepted.
  12. I also agreed to have two of my quilts made for the Prism Play SAQA exhibit (but not accepted) to be displayed at PIQF.
  13. I gifted Japanese Houses to DS for his birthday.
I posted here every day 30/30 days, I posted on Instagram 6 times, on Threads 14 times, and on BlueSky 7 times. I attended Super Sew Day for BAMQ, and virtually attended group meetings for CST as well as several family visits, and going to doctor visits with my Dad. For June being just the second month after surgery, working on continuing recovery and going to PT appointments every week, I feel like I did pretty well.
