Ocean Facings

Time for facings on Ocean Efect.

for the top facing I used a strip of my green hand-dye that matches the top green color strip.

This is how it looks with the facings pinned, I'll post a final picture when I get the hand sewing done and iron the edges.
 I'll be turning this in tomorrow at the BAMQ exhibit.

First Retreat Day Report

 It was a beautiful drive down to the BAMGG retreat in San Juan Bautista. 

Shopping as a group at Family Threads quilt shop was very fun.

I helped set up and our fabulous organizer, Bonnie handed out detailed very clear lists of steps for each thing we needed to do before everyone arrived. A great innovation that really worked out well!

My first project was trimming the edges of Running Out of Raincloud, and then sewing on the facings. I also made a hanging sleeve, so all done except for the hand sewing.0"”1

The 4 I's Finished

 

I took my time stitching the facings down on The 4 I's, and I actually had no problems with the thread tangling on the pins which was nice. I really do like this backing fabric, and this is the last of it. It was a Hoffman print that I got on mega sale a while ago.

My deal with my DH was that I had to "check out" exactly 6 pins to use, as I was stitching on the bed (while medicated). And when it was time to put the quilt away, I counted the pins and accounted for the needle and scissors. I was glad that I chose the very brightly colored Tula Pink unicorn head pink pins. They were very easy to keep track of. Safety first! Especially since I'm using this awesome ice-cooler thing for icing my knee that has tubes and an inflatable pad that would be vulnerable to pin pricks. Don't want to ruin the thing that's making my knee feel so much better.

Here's how it ended up looking. I have to admit, I'm quite pleased with how it turned out in the end.

No idea how the judging will go on this one. It's a county fair exhibit, so who knows. 

I'm just glad that I got it done in time to join in the BAMQ exhibit. Hopefully I'll feel well enough to be able to go and walk around at the fair to see it for myself.

Edges of The 4 I's

I got The 4 I's quilt all trimmed down to the 24w x36h" size and all ready to attach the facings.

Facings were sewn on using the usual Jeri Riggs™ method. For the facing pieces I used the same grey fabric with German writing so that it would blend in well on the edges. I had just enough left over, so thus, it was meant to be.

This is a picture taken of one of the corners, after the facings have been pressed over and around and the corner seams pushed out.

Now to hand-sew them down and add a label and a sleeve to be really really done and ready to turn in for the fair exhibit.

Stitching by Spotlight

 

Hand stitching down the facings on my SAT 24 quilt. And using WonderClips to hopefully clamp the corner edge.

No power still, and now no internet 🛜 🥸sigh. I’m posting on one bar of cellular so hopefully 🤞 this works. 

It’s going pretty well, I’m using my around the neck lights. DS saw me and started laughing,,he said I looked like a submersible!

Facing Three Facings

Between all the sitting down watching tv time between the January 6th committee hearings and SF Giants games, I've gotten the facings all stitched down on what I'm calling the Color Triptych. They don't look any different than the last time I posted a picture of them of course, but then that's how a good facing is supposed to work, right? But now I'm one big step closer to being able to hang them up in my house. 

The sleeves and labels should be pretty quick to make and stitch on.

And my production assistant was of course a big help as per usual.

Facing the Facings

Thanks to Wonderclips and lots of pins,  I'm getting the facings stitched down on the Colorful Triptych. It's a lot of stitching, because these are quite long but skinny. 

I'm doing the stitching while watching daytime (for me) Giants games as they play on the East Coast, so that means I'm hanging out with the Jawbreaker pillow that I made back in 2020. I didn't have a pillow form that was the right size, so I made my own out of batting and fabric scraps so it's heavy and solid and makes a great lap stitching device.

The Wonderclips really help a lot when you're trying to hold the rolled over edge in place while you stick down the facing an inch and half away.. I still need to make the three hanging sleeves to add on and get the trio hung up on the wall.
