ICAD Wrap-Up

 Time for an ICAD wrap-up, I've made a video of this year's cards. Usually in Blogger you can insert a link to one of your own YouTube videos and it presents it here as a clickable video. For some reason, in preview that's how it looks to me, but when I published today's post, there was only an endless captcha page displayed. Sigh...I guess Blogger and YouTube are no longer on speaking terms or something. 

But this link should get you to YouTube to see the video if you'd like. It's really fun to me to see all of the cards I made in one continuous presentation. 

This is my sixth year of doing this project. Previous year's videos of all 61 cards are a mixed bag.

2022 and 2021 I didn't make a video, probably because of the 2020 experience. I'm taking a risk and doing one this year I guess. I honestly had forgotten all about it before I posted it today. Hopefully I don't get a second strike on my account and get booted off of YouTube. We shall see...

Trinket Piecing Video

I took so many process pictures of the recent Trinket paper piecing I was doing that I made a video out of them all. It tells a certain obsessive story I suppose. But I really like all the colors and the end result. I probably should have made one with all of the Trinket blocks, that's a lot more photos.

Art Together Now

 

I'm not exactly sure why, but this video from Ok Go Sandbox gave me a very good happy cry. 

I think I just truly miss seeing humans performing in person. 

Or maybe it's just seeing humans that I don't know at all out in the world in general. 

Human collaboration is really something when you think about it. And being able to do something together, even when we're physically apart is a miracle that I don't think we fully appreciate.

Hello February!

 

It's February already, and just like that, we're 1/12 done with year. All this artificial chopping up of time into perceivable chunks is so very human, but it's what we do, it's how we deal with the inexorable flow of time. So what are you doing for Valentine's Day? I have no idea 🤷‍♀️ at this point, probably make some cards on my Cricut, but beyond that, I don't really know. I wonder if any local restaurants will have Valentine's to-go dinners available?

The monthly marker for February is a combination of my rainy wheelbarrow and the back of the Lone Round Robin, created on Snapseed.

Here's my One Second Everyday video for January. This was my first time using this app and I really like how this thing works, except for the blurbs of various podcasts. I do really like the raven calls that come through. As they say on the app website, life is made up of seconds. 

ICAD Video

As is my custom now, I've made a video of all 61 ICAD pieces I created this year. I think it's pretty fun to see it all in one place in this format, and I hope you enjoy it too.

Not sure why, but YouTube thinks my video is violating their terms of service, specifically the spammy rule? I've appealed, and we'll see what happens. It's obviously all my own personal artwork, the video was created on Animoto which I've always used to make these videos with no problem. I have no idea honestly, maybe they were bored on a Sunday? 

Well, I heard back from YouTube and they say: 

Dear Julie Stiller: Thank you for submitting your video appeal to YouTube. After further review of the content, we've determined that your video does violate our Community Guidelines and have upheld our original decision. We appreciate your understanding. Sincerely, — The YouTube Team

Not helpful, at all.  Doesn't say why, how this is spam, or anything at all that would assist me in changing something to make it 'acceptable to the community" I'm such a rule-breaker, don't you know?! I don't even know how or why or what rule I'm breaking, and this boilerplate reply message from them doesn't do a thing to help my understanding that they supposedly appreciate.

Guess we're down to hey here's a link to watch it over on Animoto: ICAD 2020 The good news is that you can expand it to full screen to really see the details of these 4x6" pieces.

2019 ICAD Video

Here's a video I made utilizing all my ICAD cards for this year.
I find that it's fun looking at them in this way. I see more things about them when they're randomly grouped and presented instead of in the order that I created them. There's also the two-step remove from holding the piece in my hand, I took a picture and then it's in this video, so it changes the impact of the individual line markings or brushstrokes.

All Together Now

 Here are all 52 of the weekly six-word memoirs from 2010.  Somewhat in order, in rows starting up in the upper left corner.  A bit hard to arrange clearly in rows due to the irregular (ie crazy) shapes and sizes.

 I like seeing these grouped together like this all in one place.  Makes it easier to spot all those commonalities through the year and how each one is so very different from the others.

 It is interesting to see the similarity in colors depending upon the season, I also like seeing the different shapes they each ended up.

The quiltlets are now residing in a box that I've collaged and I think that's where they will stay, until I can think of a way to make them into a book.  If I do, I'll be sure and share it here.
So, what's the project for this year? Well, I haven't picked one and here it is April already, so I guess I'm taking a year off at least until something strikes me as *must-do*.

Quilts & Color Video

Recovering from surgery on my right hand. Can't do much at all, since my hand is immobilized so that the tendon can heal. Getting Very Boring! And four more weeks to go in the splint.

So, I made a video of the quilt related pictures I have up on Flickr. Animoto the online program I used. It is really fun and easy to use. I am trying to decide whether to renew my membership or not, as I haven't used it too much over the past year.

Time for AV Club

To continue with my Neil Gaiman admiration and appreciation (some say stalk-er-y) AV club here are two gems, one audio only, one audio + video.

If you like grail stories and would love to have the author read a really different kind of grail story to you (it is about 30 minutes long) then do give a listen to Chivalry written and read by Neil Gaiman. I think listening to an author read the story they've written is a different experience than hearing an actor perform it. There is an authentic quality that comes through that an actor just can't produce.

I'm on the hunt for this book to give my brother and sister-in-law as they've just brought a beautiful new baby girl into the world. I love being an auntie once again. I think this book is a lovely welcoming prayer and blessing that would be great to read over and over.

Dog Lake

Here is a snip of the quiet and peace of the shore of Dog Lake, which is a very steep yet short hike out of Toulumne Valley.
