Not Exactly Navy

 

I got out the bolt of not exactly navy solid that I had bought a while ago, and pre-washed. It's been in an un-ironed, but washed and re-rolled onto the cardboard bolt state for some time now. So it took some ironing before I could get to cutting strips. Then I found two other solids that I thought looked good together. Hey, maybe that's a good title for this quilt, "Not Exactly Navy", I'll keep that one on the back burner for a while.

The first block I made looks pretty good to me. Now to make a few more and try them out up on the design wall with the weekly blocks and see if they work together. The not exactly navy looks so different to my eye than it does to the camera, I wonder what's up with that?

I'm going for the look of the version on the right hand side by using the not exactly navy. 

Andover Fabrics, the sponsor/host of this "block at a time" sew along, has a huge free resource of free quilt patterns. More than a 1,000! I was just randomly paging through and looking at some of them and I really like this one, which would be super interesting as an all scrappy quilt. Putting this in my "maybe someday quilt designs" tag.

As Yet, Still Untitled

 

This is how things look for the Ruby+Bee challenge quilt as of the start of this morning. Nothing new sewn together, but more cut out. And the removal of the Temperature quilt from the design wall. All of those columns need to be measured and trimmed up and I don't want them up there for too long in case they stretch out and get wonky (er).

Getting to look more like the design now, the eight square that looks like a nine square.

And now I've come to the absolute end of the "light" blue I'm able to cut out.  All the rest of the remaining space is supposed to be that color. And now that I can look at the actual colors, as opposed to the much clearer and less greyed-out versions I chose to represent them in EQ8 I might want to consider switching things around. The "making visual decisions visually" advice is always always true.

And that's all of it that I have left. 😭 😭 😭 😢 😢 😿 And wow does it ever look grey instead of blue in this picture 

Guess I really should have thought about fabric amounts when I was doing the design in EQ8. Sigh. Back to the drawing board for a potential redesign while I wait for more of it to arrive. The color is Rain Cloud, and now it's making me sad that we had potential rain clouds today but no rain.

Maybe that's a possible title: Running out of Rain Cloud

Best Besties Beasties

 I received the Pink Door Fabrics, Tula Pink: Best Besties subscription box back in November, and posted about it, but then it got stowed away and I just re-found it. It was like opening up a new one in a way that was a really nice surprise and  also kind of funny. I haven't thought about what sort of quilt to make with all these great fabrics. 

I think Best Beasties would be a good name for it too. Maybe if I make a quilt. with just these fabrics, then I'll call it that.

I like these coordinating solids that came with it. The pattern that came in the box is kind of cute, but I think I'll come up with something else. Maybe also involving hearts, who knows?

So, I hadn't unfolded the fabrics up to look at them yet, and I was really wowed. All these animals! Great!

This aqua blue poodle really knocked my socks off!

I kind of want pajamas made out of this moon rabbit print on a cotton jersey.

Such a great rainbow of fun fabric prints, I'm really looking forward to working with it. I see some fussy cutting in my future....
