Secret Hair

My undercut haircut is perfect for the hot hot hot summer. I can actually wear my hair down occasionally which is a nice change. The design grew out pretty quickly, not sure what I'll get next time...

Recent Additions

All of these were purchased back in January in Half Moon Bay while I was there for the CQFA retreat, at a little shop called Tokenz.
First is a big anti-evil-eye glass charm to hang over the front door.  This is about 3" wide.  One of my favorite symbols.  Never had seen one this large before!

 I'd never seen cone shells sliced like this before, thought the shapes were really intriguing.  Probably too delicate for quilt embellishing but maybe for printing or stamp carving?

Who doesn't need a lightweight bracelet of skulls?  Well not me really, not something I'd wear except maybe in October. I predict that these will end up on the next Dia de los Muertos quilt that I make.

Teeny tiny doodads for embellishments.  This store had a wall of big jars of this things, it was fun to go through and pick out a few I thought I might use at some point on a quilt.

 A right hand figure, to help me meditate on upcoming re-repair tendon pinky finger surgery.  But now that I look at it more closely, maybe not such a great model to use as I'm not planning to have the pinky finger removed. hmmm

Hair Happy

Happy that I finally got my hair cut! I don't know why I was putting it off for so long, but the stars aligned or something. Got a shaggy layered kind of deal with about 4" off the ends. My only requirement was that I still be able to pony-tail it. Just barely, but that works. What a weight off my head and neck.

This is how it looked all blow dried (which I never bother to do). Looks strange to have it straight, usually it is curly and wavy.
In this picture you can also see the red climbing roses on our deck are still pumping out those blossoms.

Post-Halloween

Some pictures to wrap up the doings around Halloween this past weekend.

My son Alex fulfilled his dream and got to be a gorilla! He lucked into borrowing a really awesome costume from a buddy. He was really sweaty afterwards, but he said it was totally fun to freak people out at school. His friend went as a wounded Napoleon, he even had made his own jacket, but I didn't get a picture of it unfortunately. I made a necklace out of the super coolio pendant I bought from Sacred Suzie, it really turned out nicely. I used a twisted hank of coordinating fibers that I'd bought at PIQF. It was comfy to wear, like a mini-scarf!Then on Saturday night, I arrived back home after a steering-wheel-gripping drive through a horrible rainstorm from the CQFA meeting to the power just coming back on. Just in time for me to finish my costume (finally!) for the party we were invited to. With about two minutes to spare I got it done, it turned out to be a long vest with chiffon on the bottom down to the floor, really floaty and fun, I wore it over a sparkly black dress that I already had thrifted. But the rain just got worse and worse, so the only pics I got were these that I took of myself in the car. I didn't want my camera to get wet and we had to walk through an absolute downpour while I tried to hold up my costume from the river running down the middle of the street and not let my fabulous hat get too soaked. Sheesh! Well at least you get to see my crazy green hair and makeup. Doesn't green eyeshadow make a great blusher??

It was a super fun party, the power even went out for a while (luckily there were lots o' candles going), we got to eat great yummies and have unusual and tasty mixed drinks and talk politics with people we'd just met! Wheee, it was fun! Can you tell I haven't been to a grown-up party in a while???

And no pumpkin photos because we've been very lame-o and haven't carved them yet!!! More on that later....

Digital Doodling - Self Portrait Challenge

Last Tuesday of the month, hard to believe that March has flown by so very quickly. For Self Portrait Challenge we're supposed to be using online tools. But I got kinda bored with them, and used the image editing program that is actually free online, Irfanview, highly recommended! As well as a filter set which cost some amount of money that I no longer recall, Filter Unlimited. Both of these work so well for me that I still haven't gotten around to trying out Photoshop Elements, which is installed...time time.

It has been a while since I've made a kaleidoscope and I really like how this one turned out. You can kind of see my new hair color. Well, ok here is the original picture so you really can see it. I really like it, and of course now it is discontinued, waaaah! I'm hitting all the drug stores around here looking for some to stockpile. Loreal Castings - Plum Orchid.
