We gave our daughter a weighted blanket for her birthday last weekend, and I offered to make her a duvet cover for it as it's not washable. She asked for pink, so I had her go through my box of pink fat quarters and pick ones she liked. I made a little swatch card and took it to my LQS and found these fabrics. The two fabrics on the right will be on one side and the two on the left will be on the reverse. That's the plan as of now.
The store I went to is the local Kaffe Fassett place, and so they carry his design wall flannel. I bought a piece to try out. His comments on using a white design wall go something along the lines of "How can you see anything, it's like looking into a snowstorm?" I'm not sure if I'll like the white lines, but I do like the grey. I'm going to pin it up onto my all-white design wall and take some comparison pictures of a project side by side to see if I see a difference.
Talk to Colleen about duvet covers. She was making one for her daughter and may have some tips, especially if you are using a quilt top.

I am curious to hear what you think about the Kaffe Design wall. I don't think I like the grey, though making a white quilt on a white design wall is a challenge.
Okay, I will ask her if I get stuck. I'm not really making a quilt top though, just sewing the fabrics together with French seams so there's no raw edges. The closure is the only debate, do I use buttons, snaps or snap tape or *gasp* velcro, so many options. I hate buttons on duvet covers, they always stop working, falling off, the buttonholes get stretched out, etc. so I'll probably go with something else. And yes pink, right?!?! That's how she knows how much I love her.
ReplyDeleteI'll take some pictures of the grey design wall in use. I'm curious to see if I like it better. It is a rather odd grey when you see it in person. It would make a lovely duvet cover actually now that I think about it.
